Find out why President Duterte missed the two ASEAN meetings. Must Read!
MIGRAINE or the so-called Duterte’s headaches downed President Rodrigo Duterte and kept him from showing up at two meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Vientiane, Laos Thursday morning.
Malacanang officials said that Duterte missed the ASEAN meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ASEAN conference with US President Barack Obama since he was not feeling well.
“He was not feeling well in the morning so he missed the two sessions,” presidential peace adviser Secretary Jesus Dureza said in a message to reporters.
“But he was able to attend the East Asia Summit with 18 world leaders and the rest of the day’s remaining schedule until departure for Indonesia early evening today,” Dureza said which Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Asec. Charles Jose confirmed.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon was also expected at the East Asia Summit.
Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. represented Duterte at the meetings which the president missed.
Duterte skipped most of the ASEAN-UN Summit with Ban because he had to pay a courtesy call on Laos President Bounnhang Vorachith.
Presidential communications office secretary Martin Andanar saiDuterte’s condition was caused by migraine.
Andanar said that headaches were “a regular occurrence” especially when the President is tired and working too much.
Andanar noted that instead of resting this past weekend, Duterte was busy attending to families of victims in the aftermath of last week’s bombing in Davao City, which claimed 14 lives.
He said that Duterte’s tight schedules have taken its toll on him.
