In an interview with Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, he confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte knew about the burial of the late former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Friday noon.
"Alam niya. Alam niya iyan. Hindi naman siya maba-blind. Wala naman tayong special attention dito. Wala [namang special instructions from]. Maniguro lang tayo na peaceful iyong paglibing. Walang gulo na mangyari," he said.
The decision to bury Marcos was only finalized on late Thursday, according to the officials. Duterte went to Peru on Thursday to participate at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
Earlier, Duterte said he would permit the burial as part of his campaign promises.
On the other hand, the communications team of Duterte said it wasn't aware of the burial.
"So far, the PCO has no knowledge of that instruction. We don't have any knowledge of the burial. The schedule and everything, we don't have. Perhaps, the PNP [Philippine National Police], yes," Assistant Secretary Marie Banaag said in a press conference at Malaca�ang.
"We don't really know. We honestly don't know," she added.
